thanks everyone for your feedback on what good books you'd recommend! i love that and they have been added on my to read list. (except for children of the promise which i have read and i love it! so good!)
Enna Burning by Shannon Hale
This is the sequel to The Goose Girl. Enna realizes she can control fire and in the midst of a war, she finds she can use to it conquer the enemy and save her people. Soon enough, she realizes that maybe the fire is controlling her, and not so much the other way around.
This one is good but I think I liked Goose Girl more. It does have an interesting storyline where you are not really sure if she is good or if she has turned evil unknowingly. It has some betrayal in it where it's hard to know who to trust even when it seems obvious. I think Shannon Hale is a great writer! I'm still always impressed by her style. 3 stars.
This is the third book in a series (and the last). I started this series very unsure of how I felt about it but ended up loving it by the end. It is very unique. I'll try not to spoil the series, but this book is specifically about how war makes monsters of men. It destroys humans one by one, thus destroying everyone. This is a war between the men (who you can hear their thoughts), the women (who are "silent" and have a past they want to redeem), the spackle (which are the aliens who lived there first) and 1017 (one spackle who was captured, tagged, and watched his group of people die, who also holds a grudge against his people and the humans).
Very intense! This one is told in the voices of Viola, Todd, and 1017. It's a very interesting book because thoughts and mind control are a very big factor in it. I would recommend this one. 5 stars.
I am the Messenger by Markus Zusak
This is written by the same guy who wrote The Book Thief (one of my favorites). Here is a present-time novel of a cab driver who lives a very ordinary life. He doesn't have much of a future, he likes to play cards although he's no good, and he's in love with his best friend who has never paid him that kind of attention. Soon enough, he starts receiving messages on Aces. They tell him where to go and he must figure out the kind of messages to send to all of these strangers. Sometimes it's pretending to be an older woman's husband just so she won't be lonely. Sometimes it is murdering a husband who abuses his wife every night. Ed, the narrator, follows these cards keeps delivering the message until he realizes he's not delivering the message, he is the message.
"You are the epitome of ordinariness, Ed. And if a guy like you can stand up and do what you did for all those people, well, maybe everyone can."
5 stars.
keep the recommendations coming! i love them! and let me know if any of you have read these books and what you think of them.
