So a little over a year ago, my good friend Jekyll set me up on this blind date.
with a fresh RM.
as in less than a week fresh.
Now before i get too into this, I hold nothing against this guy at all. He was super nice and will find himself a beautiful wife someday and live happily ever after. But this date was quite the experience.
flashback
So I'm sitting at Jack's house, working on glorious tiny house stuff. we're joking about this blind date and what kind of RM this would be. we are figuring out ways to make this really awkward, because i love awkward. funny thing is, we didn't need to do anything to achieve this goal.
we hear a knock at the door. they both come in. Jack already knows her date so RM and i get acquainted. we shake hands awkwardly. no eye contact. in fact, i don't think i ever got eye contact that whole night.
we get to his car. as in RM's car. as in guess who forgot how to drive on his mission. yep, we get to the light and he decides to merge into the left turning lane while in the intersection. Fast and the furious? well... maybe close.
we then get to the restaurant. before we even step inside the restaurant i hear, "have you heard of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints?" yep, RM was preaching the gospel to a man in the parking lot.
after they had a great little conversation, we head inside. while waiting for the food, RM says a prayer out loud to bless the food. don't worry, none of us got food poisoning.
we ate in silence. except for the occasional mission story. and my thoughts screaming at me to scoot a little closer to him on the bench. but i decided he was miserable enough. i mean i was basically the devil compared to RM.
we then decide to leave. his driving hadn't improved much. but we made it a little better by blasting the cd he had in his car - motab - with the windows down. except i think it was a little much for him.
when they were dropping us off, RM couldn't get his keys out of his car... so while i waiting very very patiently for him to come around to open the door, he was struggling to get his keys out and turning red in the meantime. eventually he just left the keys in and came running around.
our good byes consisted of awkward glancing around the room and a handshake. a handshake.
come to find out, the only reason he went on this date was because his mission president committed him to going on a date within a week of getting home. i'm just glad i could help him fulfill that.
You have some amazing stories! I would like to hear more please! I think you totally should have snuggled up to him on the first date, that would have been hilarious! I wish I had an awkward fresh off "the mish" date story, but I didn't go on a date until I had been home for about a year. It was still kind of awkward though. :)
