design friday

ok so it's really saturday.

first off is Zebar by 3GATTI studio. this is a live bar in shanghai. in 2006 a singaporean movie director and ex musician decided to open this up on a very low budget. it is basically a blob with cut slats throughout. check it out here.

voim, which is seeing in korean, is this concept of a braille smartphone. pretty cool i think! although it is just a concept, it uses a silicon screen for the braille. it has word and object recognition. there are braille phones out there, but this one is pretty advanced and will take a while to come out. very cool tho!

this is the traveller's closet. a very simple idea where the suitcase is designed of drawers so when you go on a trip, you don't have to unpack! and the handle extends high enough to be used as a rack for hanging clothes. genius.

here is a flower lighting fixture by LASVIT. it's a beautiful rose lamp. more of these here.

the domino clock! carbon design group took 3 large dominos with dots that flip for the time. very clever.

this is "a rolling master plan." it's a concept for the norwegian city of andalsnes where the whole city is unanchored and can be moved around at will. this concept won third place in a competition of designing a new master plan for a city. it is based on small blocky buildings moving around based on the different weather throughout the year. check it out here.

  1. Just so you know, the link to the rolling city is really linked to the domino clock. I was devastated.
